Supplier dispute FAQs
Common questions about energy supplier disputes and how to resolve them.
What is an erroneous transfer?
An erroneous transfer occurs when your energy supply is switched to a different supplier without your authorisation. This can happen due to administrative errors or, in some cases, mis-selling. You have the right to be transferred back to your original supplier and to have any charges during the erroneous period reviewed.
How long do supplier disputes typically take to resolve?
Simple billing disputes can often be resolved within 4–8 weeks. More complex disputes — particularly those involving erroneous transfers or contract mis-selling — can take longer. If a supplier fails to resolve a complaint within 8 weeks, you have the right to escalate to the Energy Ombudsman.
What is the Energy Ombudsman?
The Energy Ombudsman is an independent body that resolves disputes between energy consumers and suppliers. Their decisions are binding on the supplier. We can help you prepare and submit a case to the Ombudsman if your supplier has failed to resolve your complaint.
Do I need to pay you to handle my dispute?
For most dispute cases, our service is free. We're paid by the supplier relationship — if we resolve your dispute and you subsequently move your contract to a supplier we recommend, that covers our costs. We'll always be transparent about how we're remunerated.
