Business Energy Bill Validation UK
Energy billing errors are more common than you think. Our expert brokers audit your bills, identify overcharges and recover money owed to your business.
Are You Being Overcharged on Your Energy Bills?
Studies suggest that a significant proportion of business energy bills contain errors. These range from incorrect meter reads and wrong tariff classifications to duplicate charges and VAT applied at the wrong rate. Most businesses never check — and never recover the money.
Our bill validation service involves a detailed audit of your energy bills against your contract terms, meter data and applicable levies. We identify discrepancies, quantify the overcharge and pursue recovery from the supplier on your behalf.
Bill validation is particularly valuable for businesses that have recently changed supplier, moved premises, or have complex multi-meter or half-hourly supply arrangements.
What our bill validation covers

- Meter read accuracy and estimated read identification
- VAT rate verification (5% vs 20% eligibility)
- Climate Change Levy (CCL) exemption checks

- Overcharge recovery and supplier dispute management

Bill validation FAQs
Common questions about business energy bill validation and overcharge recovery.
How common are energy billing errors?
Industry estimates suggest that between 10–20% of business energy bills contain some form of error. These range from minor discrepancies to significant overcharges running into thousands of pounds. Most go undetected because businesses don't have the time or expertise to check.
What is the Climate Change Levy and can I be exempt?
The Climate Change Levy (CCL) is a tax on energy used by businesses. Certain organisations — including charities, schools and businesses using renewable energy — may be eligible for a full or partial exemption. We check CCL eligibility as part of every bill validation.
How far back can you check for overcharges?
We can typically audit bills going back 6 years, which is the standard limitation period for contract disputes. The further back we go, the more potential recovery there may be — but older bills can be harder to obtain.
What do you charge for bill validation?
Our bill validation service is free to carry out. If we identify and recover overcharges, we may charge a success fee based on the amount recovered — we'll always agree this with you upfront before proceeding.
